Community Education Counsellor

My name is Emma Harbin (nee Richards/Gooda) and I am a Ghungulu descendent. My role at North Rockhampton High School is the Community Education Counsellor (C.E.C.).

My role as the C.E.C. at North Rockhampton High is to support our teaching staff, families and Indigenous students, implement programs/workshops, for example the Butterfly program (females) and the Dragonfly program (males). At the end of each term, I compile the ‘Deadly Murri Newsletter’.

I form partnerships with Non-Indigenous and Indigenous organisations (Darumbal Community Youth Services, Helem Yumba and Red Cross) to assist with supporting our students to engage in their education.

Annual events that we celebrate include Naidoc Week and Sorry Day.

I have a passion for supporting our young students and their parents and hopefully guide the students on the right pathway to successfully completing their secondary education.

High School can be very daunting for your son/daughter so please feel free to come up to the Indigenous room, have a cuppa and introduce yourself. I am also available to conduct home visits.
