State Honours Ensemble Program

25/03/2014

Every year a combined school musical workshop is held in the Performing Arts Complex at NRSH.  North Rockhampton State High School and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at the Griffith University have had a valued partnership for the past three years. The third annual State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) Capricornia 2014 was held last weekend and was an outstanding success.

One hundred and forty participants represented nineteen schools throughout the Capricorn district.

North Rockhampton State High participating students were Steven and Ryan Kyriazis, Alice Everitt, Georgina Daley, Sharni Slatter, Shaylee Clarke-Pollock, Breanna Ramm, Leonie Austen, Petra Barnbaum and Sophie Baynton.

SHEP Capricornia gives secondary school musicians the opportunity to work with a team of eminent Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University conductors. String, vocal, wind, brass and percussion ensembles worked tirelessly over the weekend which culminated with an outstanding Grand Finale Concert Sunday afternoon.

Professor Scott Harrison, Director of Queensland Conservatorium at Griffith University and a past student of North Rockhampton State High School, was very impressed with the talent exhibited by the students and also commented on the high standard of facilities that NRSH had to offer.
