Girls soccer 2014

For the last year and a half Claudia has stated that we won the comp in 2012 and we needed to have a team to reclaim our former glory. Mr McGuire summoned the masses across all grades and we had a hard choice of who to include in the squad. Despite some false starters we assembled a competitive team with all grades and ability levels represented. Behind our fearless leader Jaska the girls set out demolishing the opposition in 4 out of 5 pool games and making it into the senior semi final to which we lost a close battle to Glenmore 2- 0 in the last 15 minutes.

With number retention our greatest enemy we still managed to field a team with various ring-ins on a weekly basis which included super coaches Deb White and Mike Hinds. Many players had a massive role in ensuring what I considered to be a successful result for our squad. Our star striker Shari who opened up her bankable goal scoring account (which I am not sure if she has been paid for yet) in game 1 despite starting at fullback was a key feature alongside our reliable midfield of Jaska, Hailey and Felicity. We had a strong defence lead by Claudia and goal keepers Nat and Laurel Lee. Despite some of our squad never playing before the effort, skill development and determination to improve every week was highly visible, notably Sarah, Laylah and Demi.

Although we did not win the competition we still managed to play some good football, have some laughs and played in a compassionate manner which encompasses the essence of sportsmanship.
