The study of science not only enlightens students about the nature of the world around us, but also provides students with skills which are transferable to any facet of their life.
Science education develops an awareness of the intricacies of our world (and beyond) and the problem solving and analytical skills developed by students will be used by them in the future whether or not they pursue a scientifically based career.
Currently students must take Junior Science from Year 8 to half way through Year 9 (3 semesters) and then they have the choice as to whether they would like to continue with a further 2 semesters of Science. In Semester 2 of Year 10, students may choose to take courses that prepare them for the Senior Science subject options.
For senior students our faculty offers the study of Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics and currently Multistrand Science (this subject will not exist in a couple of years time and will be replaced by an alternative option). All four subjects are authority based subjects (count towards their OP) but we are exploring the options for offering other science based subjects in senior which are competency based.
The Science Faculty constantly reviews and evaluates the courses of study not only to ensure we offer a curriculum that interests and challenges our students, but also to help students develop as life long learners.
